About MADD
One woman’s courageous fight against drunk driving sparked a movement that transformed our nation for decades. We carry that mission forward, invigorated by the possibility that together, we can end impaired driving in our lifetime. This requires collective change; sharing the responsibility of protecting one another from harm.
MADD champions anti-drunk driving technology, leads prevention efforts across all communities in the U.S., supports victims and survivors, and advocates for stricter laws. To make impaired driving a thing of the past we must continue to change behaviors and fundamentally shift how future generations think about road safety.

Did you know that as early as 2026, all new vehicles on the market will include anti-drunk driving technology? This win for public safety was made possible through the HALT Act, which was passed in 2021 as a provision of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Once in place, this technology is expected to save more than 10,000 lives per year and prevent hundreds of thousands of injuries. MADD victims and survivors worked with a bipartisan group of Members of Congress, representatives of the auto industry, and the U.S. Department of Transportation on this advanced impaired driving prevention technology for 16 years before it came to fruition.

Spearheading Prevention Efforts Across the Country
MADD’s Underage Substance Use Prevention Program aims to educate the next generation about the dangers of substance use and impaired driving. With zero tolerance messaging, our Power of Parents
and Power of Youth program gives middle school and high school aged teens the tools and confidence to take a stand and say “no” to alcohol.
MADD’s 21+ Prevention Program aims to educate adults about safe alternatives to drinking and driving including rideshare, designated drivers, and public transportation. We also work to ensure consistent sentencing in the criminal justice system through our court monitoring program to deter offenders from getting behind the wheel impaired.

Impaired Driving Ends Here
Impaired driving impacts everyone who drives, rides, and walks along our roads — yet it’s completely preventable. MADD is working to end it for good.
